  • Veterans group releases web video criticizing Obama over bin Laden comments

A national security interest group released a web video chastising President Obama for his repeated use of "I" in taking credit for last year's killing of Usama bin Laden.

Veterans for a Strong America, a non-partisan, non-profit organization of veterans focused on U.S. military issues, posted the video. The group claims that President Obama's recent comment, "I said that I'd go after Bin Laden if we had a clear shot at him and I did," is a political statement.

The veterans' group accused the president of "spiking the football" over bin Laden's killing, ahead of the upcoming election.

"Heroes don't seek credit" the video states, while showing shadowy images of a team of Navy SEALs. Navy SEALs carried out the raid on bin Laden's compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, in May 2011.

The video is a response to a recent Obama web video, "One Chance," which highlights the president's role in giving the order to execute the raid on bin Laden's compound.

The campaign ad also questions whether Mitt Romney would have made the same decision if he were president.

Romney says "of course" he would have. Obama has defended the ad.

  • Obama camp releases new web videos targeting Romney

President Obama's campaign released two new web videos this week targeting Mitt Romney -- once again showing that while Romney has not clinched the GOP nomination he's the presumptive opponent for the Obama campaign.

A new ad, titled "Hold Mitt Romney Accountable," quotes the former governor as saying, "The president said something very revealing yesterday. He said that in a perfect world, the government could spend a lot more money. I disagree."

The ad claims, "Mitt Romney is lying about President Obama. Again."

The video follows with a clip of what the president actually said in his last weekly address, "If this were a perfect world, we'd have unlimited resources. No one would ever have to pay any taxes, and we could spend as much as we wanted. But we live in the real world. We don't have unlimited resources."

A similar campaign video released Wednesday, "Mitt Romney Versus Reality," also compares Romney's take on the president's words with what the president has said.

In addition to the defensive campaign ads, the Obama camp recently launched two new blogs, "Keeping GOP Honest" and "AttackWatch." As part of the campaign's "Truth Team," posts on both blogs have almost exclusively attacked Romney. (read more)

  • Polls show Santorum with lead in Louisiana

A poll released Friday by Public Policy Polling shows Rick Santorum with a double-digit lead over Mitt Romney in Louisiana. Santorum is the top choice of 42 percent of the 650 likely Republican primary voters polled. Mitt Romney is at 28 percent, with Newt Gingrich at 18 percent and Ron Paul at 8 percent.

The PPP poll has Santorum winning the support of voters who identify as "very conservative," Tea Partiers, and evangelicals. Romney narrowly has the support, 37-33 percent, of voters living in urban areas. The PPP poll has a 3.8 percent margin of error.

Another poll released Thursday by Rasmussen Reports also shows Santorum with the lead in Louisiana heading into Saturday's primary. The poll shows Santorum has the support 43 percent of voters, and Romney with 31 percent, Gingrich with 16 percent and Paul with 5 percent. The Rasmussen poll has a 4 percent margin of error.

There are 20 delegates at stake in Saturday's primary which may be awarded proportionally to the candidate receiving at least 25 percent of the statewide vote. If no candidate reaches this threshold, the 20 delegates will be uncommitted.  (read more)

  • Biden to auto workers: GOP will bankrupt you

In a major push into the 2012 general election, Vice-President Joe Biden said Thursday that the Obama administration made a winning bet on the industry while opponents were "bankrupt" of ideas.

Touting the recovery of the U.S. auto industry since 2009, the vice president told United Auto Workers in Toledo, Ohio, that President Obama's efforts strengthened middle class security.

Biden noted that General Motors has now seen the largest profits in its history and 200,000 auto jobs have been created since the president’s rescue plan was put in place.

"The president and I made a bet, a simple bet -- we bet on you, we bet on American ingenuity. We bet on you and we won," Biden said.

On the contrary, the vice president said, Obama’s opponents wanted the companies to file for bankruptcy.

"I want to tell you what’s real bankruptcy -- the economic theories of (Newt) Gingrich, (Rick) Santorum and (Mitt) Romney. They are bankrupt. If you give any one of these guys the keys to the White House, they will bankrupt the middle class again," Biden said.

Biden added that he didn't buy the argument that the private sector would have aided the ailing auto manufacturers had the government not stepped in. (read more)

  • New Romney web videos attack Santorum, Obama

After primary victories in Arizona and Michigan, Mitt Romney continued attacks Wednesday on rival Republican candidate Rick Santorum as well as President Obama.

A new web video released by the Romney campaign Wednesday highlights Democrats who voted for Santorum in the Michigan primary.

The voters featured in the "Liberal Democrats for Santorum" video offer explanations for their choice of Santorum in the open primary. "It's my way of protecting Obama," claims one Michigan woman. "It's going to throw the GOP into some turmoil," is the reason offered by another voter, also a supposed Democrat.

Fox News exit polls from Wednesday's Michigan contest show that 53 percent of Democrats who voted in the open primary cast their vote for Santorum. Romney, though, won the contest with 41 percent of the overall vote. Santorum came in second place with 38 percent.

The new Romney web video coincides with a new fundraising effort to take down Obama, called the One Term Fund. Designed by the Romney campaign, the new fundraising site claims, "our country cannot afford four more years of President Obama." (read more)

  • Super PACs target Romney with new ads in Michigan

Two new ads released for broadcast in Michigan Wednesday are hitting Mitt Romney for his opposition to auto-industry bailouts as well as his record on spending.

A sound bite of Romney stating, "Let Detroit go bankrupt," opens the latest ad from Priorities USA Action, a super PAC supporting President Obama.  The ad cites Romney’s record while he was in the private sector of profiting off investments in businesses which later failed.

Romney’s use of the phrase "bankrupt" echoes throughout the ad, as the super PAC hopes it will echo in the minds of voters come Election Day. A Quinnipiac poll, released Wednesday has the Republican presidential primary candidate trailing Obama by 2 points in a head-to-head matchup nationwide.

Michigan is where Romney grew up and the auto bailout affects thousands of people there. A NBC News/Marist poll out on Wednesday shows 63 percent of registered voters in the Great Lakes State back the government's decision to assist General Motors and Chrysler in the fall of 2008, when President George W. Bush was still in office. Forty-two percent of likely voters -- those who would vote in the GOP primary -- back the decision.

The NBC News/Marist poll also shows Obama getting much of the credit for the bailout from registered voters, 58 percent of whom say he gets a great deal or good amount of the props. Among likely voters, only 27 percent give him a great deal or good amount of the credit for the bailout. (read more)

  • DNC ties Romney to 'Washington insiders'

Mitt Romney. the only remaining Republican presidential candidate never to have served in Congress, is attempting to distinguish himself as the candidate who is most removed from Washington.

"We need to send to Washington someone who has not lived in Washington, but someone who has lived in the real streets of America," Romney said at a recent debate.

Romney claimed Wednesday, "I'm the only guy who hasn't spent time in Washington and Senator Santorum and Speaker Gingrich -- they are the very Republicans who acted like Democrats -- and when Republicans act like Democrats, they lose."

There are no official campaign stops, though, planned Thursday for the former Massachusetts governor. Instead, Romney is scheduled to be in the Washington, D.C. area before speaking at CPAC on Friday.

Taking notice of Romney's schedule, the Democratic National Committee, through their "Rapid Response" YouTube channel, released a video early Thursday titled "Mitt Romney: The Web of Influence," seeking to challenge his latest message. (read more)
